During the lifetime of Buddha, a much-respected doctor named Chevaka Komara Phacha founded Thai Traditional Massage. In addition to inspiring the art of massage, Doctor Phacha also contributed to the original knowledge of healing using herbs and minerals.
According to tradition, Doctor Phacha was Buddha’s personal physician. In honor of tradition, a Thai Traditional Massage practitioner will offer a prayer of homage and respect for Doctor Phacha before starting a massage.

Sen Pratarn Sib-Ten Major Lines
Thai Traditional Massage is based on the ancient theory of vital life-force energy that flows along with the ‘Sen’ (or lines) in the body that are specific to energy points. Thai Traditional Massage focuses on stimulating life energy by applying pressure on these ten major lines in order to maintain a balance of body and mind by releasing energy blockages in order to increase energy flow. Pressing on these energy points also helps stimulate blood flow, increases sensation in nerve endings, improves mobility and flexibility, and encourages relaxation.

Thai Traditional Massage practitioners seek to do several things in their profession. First, practitioners strive to maintain clients’ wellness of body, mind, and spirit by promoting clients’ health through relaxation massages. Second, practitioners seek to preserve Thai Traditional Massage in its original form as it is passed on through generations of masters to students. Third, practitioners promote international awareness and acceptance by implementing a better understanding of Thai Traditional Massage.
“I opened Bahn Thai Massage in Newport, Oregon using master Pa’ Lung’s techniques. Pa’ Lung (Aunt Lung) is my revered teacher and a master of Thai traditional massage. She has practiced her craft on people in my hometown of ‘Bahn Pom’ in Sukhothai, Thailand for generations. She helps them to ease muscle pain and tension with her talents and skills that were taught to her by her ancestors. She’s amazing!!”
